The Unconquered Legacy
The first Florida State University Homecoming took place on December 3-4, 1948. There was not a theme nor a Grand Marshall. The Homecoming Queen was Clara Mofitt Howell McKay. Events for Homecoming consisted of a banquet Friday evening in the East Campus Dining Room. PowWow followed the banquet at the Centennial Field where the game against Tampa University was played. A dance followed the game Saturday evening.
Today, the Homecoming celebration is a week long event beginning with Warchant, a concert and tailgate, and ending with the game on Saturday. A Homecoming Chief and Princess are chosen to represent the student body and the parade is held on Friday. PowWow takes place at the Leon County Civic Center on Friday night and features student organizations followed by a guest celebrity comedian. The week concludes with a home game on Saturday in Doak Campbell Stadium.
